• A Very Special Father/Daughter Dance to celebrate Father’s Day

  • On this Father’s Day, let’s take a moment to recognise the guys who have been there as fathers or father figures in our lives.

At Aby & Jay’s Hawaii wedding last year, we did something very special for Aby. She had always been close to her late father Tony, so when he passed away, she was heartbroken.

Without her dad, understandably there wouldn’t have been a father/daughter dance at her wedding.

But Jay (the groom) and I planned a very nice and emotional SURPRISE for Aby and her guests…

At the wedding at the Waikiki Beach Marriott last August, we had planned to follow the Mother/Son Dance (which also had a very nice surprise for Jay’s mother) with a high-energy game to give away the centerpieces.  Aby had no idea what would happen next…

As their wedding emcee, I announced that Aby was very close to her late father Tony, that he was very influential in her life, and

even though he is no longer here in person, he is definitely here in spirit.  And to be here, Jay found an original recording of Aby’s late father singing Elvis’ I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You, so she will dance to that song…with five other very special men, men who inspire her and are very influential in her life.

So picture the moment:  her late father’s song is playing while she dances with her brother, then her really good high school friend, then her Brother-in-Law, then her nephew, and finally her Father-in-Law…

There wasn’t a dry eye anywhere in the room at that moment.

Unforgettable weddings aren’t just about creating fun, exciting moments.  Sometimes the best moments happen when you create a very nice and emotional surprise, and you use the moment to recognise and be grateful for the people who are important to you.  And as the emcee for their Hawaii wedding, I was honoured to be a part of that moment.

    Happy Father’s Day!
